Making a Killing (Lambert and Hook Mystery 2)

In the isolated village of Oldford a local estate agent is murdered. The entire community comes under suspicion, and it’s up to Superintendent Lambert to find out what they’re hiding.

Henry and Margaret Harben ease their Rolls Royce between two high gateposts, arriving at the house they hope to buy. The Cotswold stone glows in the golden twilight. But why are the grounds so still?

Round the back of the house, French doors swing open onto a drawing room. In a chair by the fireplace is estate agent Stanley Freeman – a polythene bag over his wide-eyed, lifeless head.

The police find a suicide note in Stanley’s pocket. But Superintendent Lambert and Sergeant Hook are unconvinced. And the results of the post-mortem confirm their They’re looking for a murderer.

A surplus of suspects muddies the waters. But Lambert and Hook surmise that certain members of Oldford’s insular community know more than they’re letting on.
